When the search for the perfect electronic cookie cookbook came up short, we at Smart magazine decided to make one and share it with the community. It can be propped up on your kitchen counter while you toss ingredients in your mixer.

And what better way to fill it than using local recipes? Inside, you’ll find more than 120 recipes collected from around York County, Pennsylvania.

The majority are from the finalists in the York Daily Record/Sunday News’ 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008 Holiday Cookie Contest. A few are tried-and-true family recipes from our staff. And we even included a handful of healthy recipes for those who are looking to satisfy their sweet tooth while watching their waistline — all recipes are well under 200 calories.

We tested the recipes out in our kitchens — look for cooking videos sprinkled throughout. And we shared Smart tips on baking, making substitutes and even mailing that we’ve collected to make sure your cookies are a hit any time of the year you decide to bake them.
